Signature

This public art intervention was an off-site project as part of an exhibition with Neutral Ground Gallery in Regina, May 23 - 27, 2006. The exhibition also took place in conjunction with the Cathedral Village Arts Festival.

Signature consisted of a business’ exterior wall being bombed with “graffiti” tags. Although the designs at first glance take the appearance of street graffiti styles, each motif is a fragment from classical decorative designs. The flowing line work and calligraphic nature of graffiti recall the decorative scrolls of arabesques and calligraphy from ancient mosques, temples, carpets, fabric designs and pottery spanning the history of the decorative arts.
